Lightning In A Bottle 2017 Preview

Lightning in a Bottle (LIB) is a transformational festival in the Central Coast region of California presented by The Do LaB, who seeks to promote sustainability, social cohesion, personal health, and creative expression. They have also contributed art installations to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.

Did you know?
-Lightning in a Bottle began as a private birthday party in 2000. From 2000-2003, it recurred each July as a private event, and shifted by measures from a private event to a public festival in 2004.
-In 2004, LIB was hosted at Gold Creek Ranch in the Angeles National Forest. Then they relocated to Santa Barbara, California. But that’s not all– in 2010, they brought the entire festival to Oak Canyon Ranch in Silverado, CA. In 2013, it was moved to Winchester, CA.
Now, they have their alluring festival in Bradley, CA, due to the increasing attenders. This is their first move to Mid/Southern California. DoLaB has moved the party all over California! Now that’s a partyyy.
– There are opportunities to volunteer at the event, an example being a performing artist in the DoArt Foundation’s “Lightning in a Paintcan”, known as the biggest live painting event in the United States.
– Lightning in a Bottle is the only United States festival to win the “Outstanding Award” from A greener Festival, five years in a row.

What kind of music is there at this, Lightning in a Bottle..?
LIB is incredibly versatile when it comes to the genres of their musical guests. Not only is there a wide range of music, but also a good mix of art, life, and culture. As an LIB attender in 2015, I vividly remember the VIBES of goodness all around me. I camped with a group of five– we drove from NorCal to Bradley ready to boogie. Boogie was an understatement, the adventure was timeless. Our neighbors north were from Canada, to the left was a lovey dovey couple that made love a lot (and that’s great, go love!), and to our right, from Los Angeles. Everywhere I went, people were smiling, greeting one another, and forgetting about some of those grusome realities we all deal with… but this space WAS reality, and I was on a cloud my entire stay. Waking up and participating in drunk yoga, sharing fruits with our neighbors, dancing until my body couldn’t dance anymore. It was a true commUNITY and I will never forget that (in addition to those amazing music performances). Some artists from previous years included Cashmere Cat, Flume, Grimes, Snakehips, Tokimonsta, Alina Baraz, Phantogram, Chet Faker and many other talented musicians. Wow, am I right?

Bassnectar// Lightning Stage
Bassnectar is the stage name used by DJ, producer, and remixer Lorin Ashton, one of the most long-standing and influential figures in California’s electronic music community. Ashton’s music is known for its eclecticism, embracing elements of extreme bass, dubstep, breakbeat, and other IDM styles, as well as shifting tempos, contrasting moods, and dynamics that go from gentle to bruising and back during the course of a set. A significant amount of Bassnectar’s music also has a strong activist streak, and Ashton uses his work to promote social and political causes and to foster a sense of community. Born in San Jose in 1978, Ashton was raised in a bohemian environment and claims to have been introduced to the power of bass by the rumbling of a minor earthquake he experienced as a child.
