It’s on and Noise Popping — Noise Pop Kicks off with Toro Y Moi

I love it so much it hurts, and this year we are kicking our coverage off early with the amazing Bay Area music, arts and culture staple — Noise Pop! Tonight we are blessed and HIGH-ly favored to be attending the Noise Pop kick off featuring a DJ set by the amazing duo Toro y Moi! For those not familiar with Toro y Moi, for shame. Allow me to assist you down the path of amazingness.

Born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, Chaz Bear (formerly Bundick) has been making music for as long as he can probably remember, though predominantly finding his way throughout various punk and indie rock bands in the area. It was not until 2001 that he revealed his new persona, Toro y Moi, which found him taking a much more complicated trip down the rabbit hole of musical influences he began to infuse into his repertoire. Creating music that infuses everything from French pop, to jazz, to neo-soul, to a myriad of randomness that he so chooses — Chaz Bear has been bringing musical mischief to your ear drums for over a decade.

Being able to create music that melds a multitude of genres and styles, also means having an incredible ear. An incredible ear that is bringing a two hour set to the California Academy of Sciences along with sets by Chulita Vinyl Club , a bad-ass collective of all self-identifying womxn of color created for the soul (ha, get it) purpose of creating a safe space for musical empowerment.

Go for the bad-asses, stay for the Toro.

The doors open at 6pm tonight so do not miss out! If you have not gotten your tickets yet, the link is here
