R.I.P. Nate Dogg

Early this morning (Wednesday, March 16, 2011), hip hop was met with another blow when it was announced that Nate Dogg (born Nathaniel D. Hale) had passed away at the age of 41.

Nate Dogg was a pioneer in the rise of the West Coast sound and style along with other prominent figures such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and others. He was a constant go-to man for hooks and other vocals on tracks and was one of the few artists (if not only) that people could trust to maintain the gangsta sound while still singing and harmonizing. Eventually he would go on to share his talent with artists from every coast, including down South with Ludacris on “Area Codes”, Jadakiss on “Time’s Up”, and numerous other tracks.

It is without question that Nate Dogg’s presence has been missed since he has faced multiple health issues and that he will be missed even more now that there is no chance of hearing him on any new songs. However, like other great artists, he will continue to live on through the music he made. He provided many highlights and songs he has been featured on can still be heard in constant rotation today. We send our lvoe and prayers to all of Nate Dogg’s family members and close friends and let them know that the hip hop community is grieving with them.

What’s your favorite Nate Dogg song or that features Nate Dogg? Any memories on Nate on tour? Leave any thoughts you may have below. You can also view the “Respect Due” post for Nate Dogg here.
