Yesterday marked an incredible opening for the release of “Myriad of Now” by the amazingly talented group Hawthorne Headhunters. From the soul the album revisits, to new sounds of electronic jazz fusion but without leaving behind the art of rhyming I will have to say that this album blew me away.

Hailing from the streets of St. Louis Missouri this group took the sounds and rhythms of what they grew up on meshing them with the new sounds that influence them today, keeping the music soulful and relevant after their move to the West, Hawthorne, California to be exact. In 2009 the team played at an art gallery to find that their listeners vibed to the sounds of their masterful electro, jazz, funk, hip hop concoction. They decided to take those efforts a little further than gallery openings and taking their collaborative success to record status. Being that they were all successful as independent artists this only proved that the move from their home state of Missouri to California was indeed a smart venture.

One by one they followed each other out to the west in search for new beginnings but in all actuality they have kept a piece of home with them in their minds and hearts. The crew; Black Spade, Proh Mic, Ced and Coultrain take us on a journey through sounds that were created from the very intimate and progressive soul that runs in their veins. It’s effortlessly quality music for any genre lover to enjoy.

After years of recording, mastering and planning Hawthorne Headhunters give to us another phenomenal release, Myriad of Now, via Plug Research. Spirituality and Sexuality play key themes on this album but yet they do not clash nor does end up a cliché’.

Today download this track for your simple enjoyment but I will tell you that this whole album is a gem.

New York’s native, SENE is really starting to become one of the regular artists I listen to on a daily. This kat is sharing is story of struggle, loss, total numbness to the world, procrastination and search for motivation through short films while his album sits awaiting it’s debut on the net and shelfs across records stores via Plug Research. I must give it to this guy yo, he is taking his talent and sharing it with us in a different light. I personally get rather bored with the same ol’ story in videos now a days, they are all pretty much the same, no one stands out.
After Sene spent a few years away from the hustle and bustle of the New York streets, physically and mentally allowing himself to enter into a detrimental psyche he currently wants vanished.Thus trying to reinvent himself, kicking the once adorned bad habits and actually start to “feel” again is a struggle I think alot of people battle with. He expresses his Human, how he is just like the rest of us and not this big shot emcee.

It’s an intimate session on each of his shorts and honestly it’s rather refreshing. Today I share with you the short film, Feel, a deeper look into his personal battles. His clever bard intelligence is beautiful to say the least. His album drops April 24th with features and production that fit his album to a T. It’s nothing less then Legendary Music! All eight members of Living Legends unite to give you a new track “Trojan Horse” mixed into compilation with the best Living Legends songs. This is the first song that the crew has released since 2008’s “The Gathering” album. This past week Pinder and I sat down before his performance, opening for Black Milk on the Slaps and Claps Tour in SF, I, knowing his music like the map of my own city, it was a pure pleasure to sit down with him and dig deeper about his passion. With mixtapes that slapped on the streets of Seattle, taking positive criticism from Vitamin D, you know that growth serum, Code Red 2.0 and his newest album Careless you simply can’t deny him. His energy and passion for music in general is something that most artists lack. The future is the best part for this artist. The luminous DJ/ProducerCaptain Planet drops some sick heat for the world to bug out to. The remix masta got a hold of Ana Tijoux‘s “Shock” a capella track and added a new dimension of flavor by laying her vocals over an infectious Afro Latin groove that’s an instant dance floor smasher!

If your not up on the guy’s work, here’s a brief introduction. With a background in punk rock and rap music Charlie B. Wilder aka Captain Planet is a producer/DJ/MC who’s 2005 debut 12” on Bastard Jazz sold thousands of copies and led to remixes for artists like Vieux Farka Toure, Alice Russell and The Pimps of Joytime – not to mention placements on HBO’s Entourage and CBS’s CSI:NY. Also dropping official and unofficial remixes of artists like Little Dragon, Erykah Badu, Mayer Hawthorne, Mia Doi Todd, Katy B. and of course miss Ana Tijoux to name a few. Fast forward to 2011 his debut Cookin’ Gumbo was featured on PRI’s The World, CMJ , and top 10 of the year at KEXP in Seattle. For the latest updates check out hos blog MixTapeRiot.

The original song Shock can be found on La Bala, Ana Tijoux’s highly anticipated follow-up to her 2010 GRAMMY nominated breakthrough debut 1977. Look out for tour dates cause she’ll be touring in the US this May and again later this summer.
