Oh Toronto, Canada has brought out another duo that is layin down some soulful tracks and I simply must share. Cosmo Baker and 4th Pyramid AKA The Sheen Bros. have made a new sound with a little old soul to get us dancing to the beat of their drums. 2011 they dropped their EP with Scion’s A/V label all the while having the streets of Toronto asking for more.

Phonte – Charity Starts at Home (Video)

Check out Charity Starts at Home, the first solo album by rapper Phonte (Formerly of Little Brother). This album is going to be Phonte’s stairway to stardom due to his first-class lyrics followed by an array of marvelous production. His brother 9th Wonder blessed four of these tracks including my personal favorite Not Here Anymore feat. Elzhi (Formerly of Slum Village). There are even more amazing features from Evidence, Pharoahe Monch, MedianBig K.R.I.T., and others. This album comes equipped only with songs that keep you rockin’ your head. He even shows off his superb singing skills on tracks like To Be Yours and Gonna Be A Beautiful Night. I’m definitely amazed at his artistry on this album because he exhibits such high caliber work in both the singing and rapping arenas. This album certainly made my top 10 favorite albums of 2011. I’ve  also been following Phonte as apart of The Foreign Exchange with Netherland super-producer Nicolay. Nicolay is a favorite of mine all on his own. He played a huge part by overseeing this project as the executive producer, and this is what makes every track one for the record books. I recommend this album to anyone who are big Hip Hop and R&B nuts. You can follow Phonte and The Foreign Exchange tour dates and album releases at The Foreign Exchange.

Iron Solomon – Monster

Fresh off the heels of Redrum Radio, a Halloween inspired Mix CD released October 31st of last year, the MC is ready to release his debut album Monster on March 27th through Royal/3D. ‘Monster’ is produced entirely by Iron Solomon and his in-house team of producers and musicians. The album will mesh trunk-rattling 808’s with hard-hitting drums, soaring strings, lush synths and soulful horns, while remaining strongly rooted in the aggressive, witty lyricism Solomon is known for.

Sean Born – Behind The Scale

The first leak for the song “Bullshit” featuring Daily Bread’s Hassaan Mackey and produced by Kev Brown. “Bullshit” showcases the tone for the album, featuring a crackling piano loop sample and street stories that brings back memories of Mobb Deep’s “The Infamous…” and other countless albums that captured that life so well.

Planet Asia – Golden State

Planet Asia helped jump-start the West Coast independent hip-hop movement, releasing a slew of popular 12-inch singles on upstarts like Stones Throw and ABB Records in the late 90s that established him as one of the leaders of a crop of talent that included the likes of Dilated PeoplesMadlibMurs, and Jurassic 5. Now, Planet Asia is back with his first retail album in four years, the star-studded Black Belt Theatre, which hits stores everywhere via Gold Chain/Wandering Worx/Greenstreets on February 28th, 2012.
